Tammy Stokes is originally from Savannah, Georgia. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Georgia and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. 

Tammy currently serves as a judge of the Chatham County Superior Court. She was elected in 2022 and is serving her first term. Tammy previously served as chief judge of the Chatham County Recorder's Court from 2012 to 2022. She also served as a judge of the Chatham County Recorder’s Court from 2004 to 2012. Earlier in her career, she served as a judge pro tempore for the City of Thunderbolt from 2000 to 2004.

Tammy previously worked as an attorney in private practice and operated the Law Office of Tammy Cox Stokes.

As superior court judge, oversees cases involving criminal felonies, the administration of wills and estates, evictions of renters, and divorce proceedings, and exercises authority to review and correct the rulings of lower courts.

- Georgia Superior Court Judges hear a wide range of criminal cases from petty theft and public drunkenness to murder. Some cases in front of the Georgia Superior Court involve the death penalty. 
- On the civil side, Superior Court Judges hear cases on divorce, titles to land, contract disputes, and premises liability. 
- Superior Court Judges are elected by judicial circuit. Each county surrounding Atlanta has its own judicial circuit, while rural judicial districts typically consist of multiple counties.
