Barbara is from Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended Vassar College. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Vassar College and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives with her husband in Savannah. She attends Asbury Memorial Church.

Barbara is a retired administrative and executive assistant. She worked at the University of North Carolina, the North Carolina School of Science & Math, and Georgia Southern University for over 30 years.
