Michael Smith has lived in Cobb County for most of his life; having attended Garrett Middle School, South Cobb High School, and Kennesaw State University. After graduating from Kennesaw State University, he and his wife decided to raise their four children in the district.

Michael worked as an educator for the Cobb County School District. 

Michael is currently a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 41. He was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024.
