Joe Powers is originally from Toccoa, Georgia. He attended Newberry College, then studied mass communications at Piedmont University and communication and media studies at Southern New Hampshire University. Joe and his wife have two children and live in Dublin, Georgia. They are members of Pine Forest Methodist Church.

Joe currently works as a sales and marketing specialist at Regal Media Team and as principal owner of Powers Media Network and Agency, a full-service marketing and media agency. He previously served as a local sales manager for Cox Media Group in Georgia, as general sales manager and general manager at Fox 54 in Columbus, as general sales manager at 41NBC in Macon, as a sports editor and journalist at CNN, and as an on-air personality at Y96 radio. Earlier in his career, he worked as an emergency medical technician with National Emergency Medical Services, Incorporated.

Joe's campaign for Georgia State Representative is his first run for public office.
