Mark Newton is from Macon, Georgia. He earned his bachelor's degree in microbiology and immunology from The University of Georgia, his master's degree in health care administration from Harvard University, and his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He lives with his wife, Joni, and their four children in Augusta, Georgia, and attends Warren Baptist Church.

Mark currently works as the president and chief medical officer at MedNow Urgent Care Centers. He previously worked as the medical director and chairman at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Doctors Hospital Augusta Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Mark currently serves as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 127. He was first elected in 2016 and is serving his fifth term.
