Trenton is originally from Tifton, Georgia. He earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Georgia at Athens, and law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He lives with his wife, Jill, and their two children in Putnam County.

Trenton previously worked as a Superior Court Judge, a State Court Judge, and a general practice attorney.

The Court of Appeals does not hear appeals on murder, constitutional questions, and criminal cases where the Georgia Supreme Court has jurisdiction.
