Jeffrey "JJ" Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s degree from Tennessee Temple University, as well as a master's degree from Piedmont International University. He lives with his wife and four children in Rossville, Georgia. 

JJ's campaign for the Walker County Commission is his first run for public office.

JJ currently works as an independent consultant. He also serves as a co-founder and the chief operating officer of Sport 1, a sports organization focused on athlete development and coaching support. He also currently works as a student success coach at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, in addition to his ongoing roles in sports consulting and coaching. JJ previously worked for Ridgeland High School as an assistant football coach and grounds/facilities overseer, and in nonprofit leadership and economic development roles.
