Council Member Spano made a motion to appoint Sgt. Matthew Colson Interim Police Chief, with commensurate salary, with applications to be accepted until July 31 and a final appointment to be determined. Council Member Oscar Griffith seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously, 4-0. The position of Police Chief will be posted with a closing date of July 31.

Said use of the city water truck posed safety risks, including a potentially fatal accident.

Councilman Oscar Griffith says no notice was given to dispatch, the firehouse was left unsecured, and the city was put at risk for a major liability. "This water truck holds about 6000 gallons of water... if he had had an accident... now we got safety. What's next? Somebody's going to get killed then what we're going to say? 'Ohh I'm sorry'?"

- The mayor leads the executive branch of local government, presiding over city council meetings, making sure city departments run smoothly, and providing services to citizens.
- The mayor runs the city day to day and prepares the budget each year, meaning that they propose how much funding goes to each city department, including the police department, city parks, transportation, and the fire department.
- The mayor also hires the Police Chief, Fire Chief, and city department heads, such as City Planning, Parks & Recreation, and Transportation.
- Most Georgia mayors are elected in odd years to four year terms. Elections are nonpartisan.
