Barbara Townsend is from Livonia, Michigan. She has a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration from Texas Christian University. She lives with her husband, David, and their two children in Granbury. She attends Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Barbara is a financial consultant at Independent Financial. She previously worked as an engineer at Lockheed Martin for 13 years and spent 19 years as a stay-at-home mom.

Barbara is currently a trustee on the Granbury Independent School District Board.
