Eric Gonzalez is from East New York and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He attended John Dewey High School in Coney Island. He has a bachelor of arts in government and history from Cornell University and a juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three sons.

Eric is currently the Kings County District Attorney. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021. He assumed office in 2016 as interim District Attorney and was elected in 2017. His current term ends in 2026.

As Chief Assistant District Attorney, guided the launch of the office's Conviction Review Unit.

Legal Experience

As District Attorney, implemented a comprehensive anti-violence strategy that includes engaging specially trained experts, utilizing new technologies, and focusing enforcement efforts on the drivers of crime.

Plans to investigate and prosecute employers who commit fraud against workers, including wage theft and criminal negligence.

Consumer Protection

- District Attorneys (DAs) are elected officials responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the public within their respective counties. ​
- DAs oversee criminal investigations, determine charges, present cases in court, and negotiate plea deals. ​
- In New York City, each borough has its own DA, elected to four-year terms with no term limits. ​
- To run for DA, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a resident of the county they wish to serve, a registered voter, and appropriately licensed to practice law in New York.
