John is currently a council member for the Town of Granite Quarry. He was first elected in 2017 and is currently serving his third term. Before that, he served as mayor from 1987 to 1996 and again in 1998 with additional terms on the then Board of Aldermen.

As a council member, voted to approve a rezoning that would allow for an expansion of the existing apartment complex in the 400 block of West Bank Street.
