William is currently a town commissioner for Fuquay-Varina. He was first appointed to the Town Board in 1987 and has served multiple terms since then. He is currently serving his 14th term on the board. He previously served as mayor from 1995 to 1997 and again from 2011 to 2013. He is currently running for mayor again in the 2025 election.
