Tara Overzat earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida, and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and a doctorate in counselor education and supervision from Mercer University. She has lived in Sandy Springs with her husband, Sean, and their cats, Moxie and Midnight OverCat, since 2019.

Tara is a licensed professional counselor and small business owner. She runs a virtual private practice, Getting Overzat LLC. She also teaches as an adjunct professor in the Mercer University graduate counseling program. Before starting her practice, she worked as a therapist in various settings, including schools and community mental health organizations. She has been in the mental health field for nearly 15 years, helping clients lead happier, healthier lives. She has also taught and trained hundreds of graduate students and therapists to prepare them for their roles in the community.

Tara Overzat's campaign for Sandy Springs City Council Member, District 3 is her first entry into politics. 

Believes well-kept roads, parks, and public spaces reflect community pride and create a safe environment for children and families.

Supports maintaining and expanding parks and youth recreational programs.

Supports diverse housing options for all generations, including smaller homes for older adults and starter homes for young professionals and families.

Supports fully funding the Sandy Springs Police Department to ensure safer neighborhoods, promote economic growth, attract businesses, and enhance property values.

Supports improving walkability and transit access.

Supports city-wide recycling services to reduce landfill waste and increase accessibility for all households.

Supports encouraging electric vehicle-friendly zoning and chargers to reduce harmful fumes from traditional cars, which contribute to higher asthma rates in children, leading to fewer missed school days and more time breathing easy.
