She previously served as the mayor of Kirkland. She was first elected in 2014 and served for 4 years. She previously served as a member of the Kirkland City Council. She was elected in 2009 and served for 5 years.

Amy works as a manager at Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Hyundai of Seattle. She also operates Ford-Hyundai of Kirkland with her husband. She previously worked in auto dealerships and as a lawyer in Australia.

Amy holds a bachelor's degree in political science from The University of Queensland and a law degree from the University of Queensland Law School. She is married to her husband, Jim, with whom she has 3 step-children.
