Tracy earned an associate and bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College, a master's degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe, and a doctorate degree in juvenile justice from Prairie View A&M University. He lives with his wife, Sonya, and their two sons in Marshall, Texas. He previously spent 3 years in prison on a 57-year sentence for check kiting and felony theft. 

Tracy currently serves as the director of the Lee P. Brown Criminal Justice Institute at Wiley College. He also works as a pastor of the Historic Edwards Chapel B.C. in Marshall, Texas, and runs the Tracy Andrus Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving Texans struggling with housing and food insecurity.
