Charlie attended the Baylor military school and then earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. He resides in the Fort Worth area. Charlie's volunteer work includes the Ronald McDonald House, Rotary Club, and Fort Worth Zoo. 

Charlie is the president of Railhead Smokehouse and a principal and founding partner of the commercial real estate firm of Kelly, Geren, & Searcy. He also previously served as a deputy to the United States Marshals and president of LGS Godly Ranch Corporation.
