Joseph earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and his master's degree in education from Sam Houston State University. 

Joseph is currently a professor of education and the lead faculty member for the Associate of Arts in Teaching program at Lone Star College. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served 8 years. He has been an assistant professor and has served as an assistant principal. 

Joseph Ferguson previously ran for school board member in 2020 and 2022, but he did not win.

Believes students should only be taught certified subjects in school and any other subjects or teachings should be taught at home or at a place of the parents' choosing.
