Carolyn was born Buffalo, New York, but moved to West Goshen, Pennsylvania at age 2. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from West Chester University and her master's in education from Widener University. She lives in West Chester with her husband. They have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. She is involved with the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of West Chester, and the League of Women Voters.

Carolyn currently works as vice president and chief financial officer of Thomas Comitta Associates, a town planning and landscape architecture firm. She previously worked as a public school teacher and curriculum advisor for the Octorara Area School District.
