Don is from Freeport, Ohio, where he lives with his wife, Amy, and their two daughters. He is a certified volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Deersville community volunteer fire department. He is the chairman of the South Central Power Foundation board. He has also served as head of the Harrison Soil and Water Conservation District, president of the Harrison County Agricultural Society, and on the Ohio FFA Board. He attends Minksville Church of Christ.

Don works at his family’s farm equipment dealership, D&J Sales & Service Inc.  He was an agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor at Harrison Central High School.
