Dan Votaw was born on October 4, 1955, in Salem, Ohio, and currently resides in Leetonia, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Delaware and continued his education at Youngstown State University and Kent State University. Dan is married to Michele, and they have three children.

Dan Votaw has been a public-school teacher in the Lisbon Exempted Village School District since 1984, teaching English/Language Arts at Lincoln Middle School and David Anderson High School. He has also served as President, Vice-President, and Grievance Chairperson of the Lisbon Education Association.

Dan Votaw was elected to the Leetonia Exempted Village School Board in 2015, where he served two four-year terms.
