Karen is a lifelong resident of Ohio. She holds a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Kent State University and a master's degree in education from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. She is married to her husband Ron, with whom she has 2 daughters and a grandson. 

Karen is retired. She previously worked as a teacher for the Indian Creek School District.
