Katrina was born in Pender, Nebraska. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, a graduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and a doctorate in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University. 

Katrina is an assistant professor of engineering at the University of Jamestown. She previously worked as an agricultural engineer.
