Marcus is a single father of two daughters. Marcus graduated from Winston-Salem State University with a bachelor of science in sports management. He received his master's degree in American history from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and another master's degree in sport and fitness administration from Western Carolina University.  

Marcus is a social studies teacher at Carver High School, where he has been teaching Civics and World History for the past four years.

Amber holds a bachelor of science in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University and obtained both a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. She was vice-chair of the Forsyth County Democratic Party’s African American Caucus. 

Amber is an educator who has served as the principal of Kimberley Park School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for over a decade.
