Alan D. Swain is a veteran who resides in North Carolina with his wife, Doris. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from The Citadel in 1976, a Master of Science in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1988, and a Master's in Political Science from Auburn University in 1989. Alan and Doris have three daughters and four grandchildren.

Alan D. Swain is a retired U.S. Army Colonel with 26 years of service, including commanding an AH-64 Apache Battalion and serving as the Executive Officer to the White House Drug Czar under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. After his military career, he held executive positions such as Senior VP, Executive VP, and Chief Operations Officer in several large defense firms. Swain has maintained a Top Secret Security Clearance and a current Counter-Intelligence (CI) Polygraph.

Alan D. Swain ran for Congress in the old 2nd Congressional District in a previous election cycle. He has served as Chairman of the Wake County Republican Party and the NCGOP 2nd Congressional District. During his tenure, the local 2021 municipal elections saw 7 of 12 candidates he supported winning their races.
