Ralph Hise is a native of Mitchell County and resides in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, with his wife Linn and their twin sons, Thomas and Deren. He attended Mitchell High School and the North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics, followed by Appalachian State University where he earned a BS in Statistics, and North Carolina State University where he obtained an MEd in Higher Education Administration.

Sen. Ralph Hise is an Expert-in-Residence in the Health Policy Institute at UNC-Asheville. He has a background in statistics, holding a BS from Appalachian State University, and in higher education administration, with an MEd from North Carolina State University.

Sen. Ralph Hise is serving his sixth term as senator of the 47th District of North Carolina. He holds the position of Deputy President Pro Tempore and is a voting member of all committees in the NC Senate. Sen. Hise co-chairs the Appropriations/Base Budget Committee, the Redistricting and Elections Committee, and the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Information Technology.
