Todd received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is married with two sons and attends the Lee Park Baptist Church in Monroe.

Todd has worked as an insurance agent and has served on the Jesse Helms Center Board of Directors.

Todd Johnson currently serves as the State Senator in State Senate District 35. He was first elected in 2018 and is serving his third term. He previously served as Union County Commissioner. He was elected in 2010 and served one term in this position.
