Steve is married to Lynne, and they have 2 grown sons and 3 granddaughters. He attended Appalachian State University to earn his undergraduate and master's degrees. 

Steve is a lifelong educator with over 34 years of experience in the Wilkes and Alexander County public school systems. He served as a coach, teacher, and administrator. After retiring from full-time work in 2011, he has continued to engage in the education sector by providing trainings and serving as a student-teacher advisor for Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb Universities.
