Representative Larry Potts was born on September 14, 1948, and resides in the Reeds community with his wife, Carolyn. They are members of First Baptist Church of Welcome and have three children, Andrew, Matthew, and Charity, as well as one granddaughter. He attended Davidson County Community College and Spokane Community College.

Larry W. Potts is the president and owner of Southland Construction Company in Reeds and president of Davidson Investment Group. He has served as a commissioner, including terms as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. His professional affiliations include the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Davidson County Home Builders Association. Potts has also been involved with the Davidson County Economic Development Commission and the Executive Board of Directors for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center­ Lexington Medical Center.

Larry W. Potts has served five terms as a Davidson County Commissioner, including nine terms as Chairman and five terms as Vice-Chairman. His term as commissioner expired in December 2016, after which he was elected as North Carolina House Representative for District 81. He has also served as Vice Chair of the NC House Appropriations Committee and was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory in May 2013 to serve a four-year term as Chairman of the North Carolina Board of Social Services.
