Mary has lived in North Carolina for over 30 years, and has two sons. She earned a certificate in office administration from Wake Technical Community College, and a bachelor's degree in journalism and broadcast journalism from the University of Kansas. She volunteers as the Chair of the Town of Apex's Tree Citizens Advisory Panel. 

Mary is a current chapter administrator for Legatus International. She was previously a substitute teacher for St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School, and a radio news reporter for the Capitol Broadcasting Company and Curtis Media Company.
