The Charlotte Observer, Mitchell Mullen, Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation candidate, answers our questions

Mitchell holds an associate's degree from ICM School of Business and a bachelor's degree in applied science and technology from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He has volunteered with the Catawba River Keepers, the Boy Scout Committee, and Habitat for Humanity.

Mitchell is a civil engineering technician. He currently works as an energy consultant at Energy Tight, LLC. He previously worked as an Operations Manager at Patterson Dental.

Lisa is from Charlotte. She holds a degree in English Literature and psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a degree in English and psychology from North Carolina State University, and a master's degree in theological studies from Liberty University. She has volunteered with Festival in Park, Charlotte Folk Society Stage, giving out food to homeless people downtown, the Foxhole Landfill Citizens Committee, and the Charlotte Community Relations Committee. She is also a violinist at Calvary Church in Charlotte. 

Lisa works as a director for a non-profit organization, Paul's Hope Food Bank, and as a newspaper writer. She previously worked as a writing tutor at Central Piedmont Community College. She and her husband owned a small farm for over 20 years raising horses and animals, and she previously worked on larger farms.

Lisa Carol Rudisill ran for Mecklenburg County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor in 2016, but she did not win. She also previously ran for County Commissioner, but she did not win.

Tigress is from Greensboro. She holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural education and environmental science, a master's degree in agricultural economics and rural development, and additional graduate study in energy and environmental systems, all from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She also holds a law degree from Taft Law School.

Tigress owns and operates PurSUEt of Happyness Corporation and Probetur Association LLC, where she works as a lawyer. She previously worked as a research scientist and a consultant for the Savannah River site nuclear power plant, and as a park ranger for Shenandoah National Park and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. 

Tigress Sydney Acute McDaniel ran for member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education in 2023, Mayor of Charlotte in 2022 and 2019, and Mecklenburg County Commissioner in 2020,  but she did not win any of those races. She also ran for Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor in 2018 and 2020, but she did not win either race.

- A soil and water conservation district supervisor is 1 member of a board of 5 supervisors that works to improve the soil and water quality in the county through education. 
- The board of supervisors provide technical and financial assistance to help land users maintain their land and surrounding ecosystems. 
- The board of supervisors design long term conservation programs that teach environmental care, pollution reduction, and provide incentives for using these practices, especially for agricultural workers. 
- The board of supervisors provide short term educational services like competitions, field days, and workshops to educate the public on conservation.
