Kimberly earned her bachelor's degree in secondary social studies education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law, and her master's of law from Georgetown University Law Center. She lives in Concord, North Carolina. 

Kimberly currently works as a paralegal instructor at Central Piedmont Community College and a practicing attorney at Mills Law. She previously worked as a senior associate at LB&A, a tax accountant at Rives & Associates, an attorney at Conner & Herrick, and a senior associate at KPMG. Herrick is also a member of the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners.

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court.
