She currently lives in the Mountain Island Lake area of District 1 with her family.

Elaine Powell began her career with the Sisters of Mercy at Mercy Hospital after graduating from the University of Delaware in 1986. She was involved in the opening of Mercy Hospital South in 1987.

Elaine Powell has been serving as the Mecklenburg County Commissioner for District 1 and has been the Vice Chair of the Board of County Commissioners since 2018. She is currently running as the Democratic candidate to continue her service in this role.
