Mike is married with children. He is also Christian. Mike earned his bachelor's degree in information systems from Catawba College, and a master's degree in business administration from Montreat College. He graduated from the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Academy.

Mike has worked as a patrol training officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Metro Division. He served in the Army Reserves and National Guard for 10 years.
