John Trent is currently a Bertie County Commissioner. He was elected in 2012 and is serving his third term. He was the chairman of the board in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.

John is currently a managing partner of JBA Property Management, LLC. He has experience working as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and director of Holmes Lumber Company, Inc., and the president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Labor and Material, South East Marketing and Sales, Inc. John also worked as a state trooper for the Florida Highway Patrol.

John earned his associate's degree in criminal justice from the Florida Highway Patrol Academy. He serves on the board of directors for the Florida Atlantic Builders Association, and is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
