Lyn grew up in Smithfield, NC. She completed undergraduate studies at Pace College and Appalachian State University, then earned a masters degree in education from East Carolina University and a master's degree in school administration from North Carolina State University. She is married to her husband, Don, and together they have 2 adult children and 5 grandchildren. She is a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Smithfield, and is the teaching leader of Bible Study Fellowship in Johnston County.
