She is a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Smithfield, and is the teaching leader of Bible Study Fellowship in Johnston County.

Lyn has over 30 years of experience working for Johnston County Public Schools, and has served as a teacher, coach, administrator before retiring as the director of the Exceptional Children Program. She is currently an adjunct professor and university supervisor at Campbell University in the Education Department.
