Martha Sue Hall was elected as a member of the Albemarle City Council in 2003 and is serving her fifth term. She also serves as Mayor Pro Tem of Albemarle. She was elected to that position in 2015. She previously served as a Stanly County Commissioner. She was elected to that position in 1994 and served for 1 full term. Martha serves on the executive board of the Centralina Regional Council of Government, where she previously served as both vice president and president. She also serves as co-chair of the Unintentional Death Prevention Sub-Committee.

Martha is retired. She previously worked as a family court administrator for the State of North Carolina (NC) Administrative Office of the Courts. She also worked as a victim and witness assistant in an NC state district attorney's office.

Martha is from Norwood. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from Gardner-Webb University and a master's degree in adult education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She lives in Albemarle. She is married to her husband, Dan, with whom she has 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Their family are members of First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle.
