Brain graduated from the University of Chicago, and holds a Master's in Tax Law from New York University, and a Master's in History from Montana State University. He is married to his wife, Betty. He served as a member of the city planning board and as Chairman of the Bozeman Park & Recreation Board. 

Brian is a tax attorney. He previously worked for his own practice, and as a teaching assistant at Montana State University, and a substitute maintenance the Bozeman schools.

Brian Close ran for the Montana House of Representatives for District 61 in 2020, but did not win. Brian was elected to the Bozeman City Study Commission in 2004.
