Michael grew up in Carroll County and graduated from Bowdon High School. He has a Bachelor's degree in history and a Master's degree in Organizational Development from University of West Georgia. He lives with his wife and has two adult children.

Michael used to be an Army ranger and a paratrooper. He was deployed in 32 countries and served for over 20 years. He also used to be a construction contractor.

Michael Dugan is currently a Georgia state senator. He was first elected in 2012 and has served six terms.
