Robert received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia in 1976 and his master's in business administration from Georgia College in 1989. He and his wife, Cynde, have been married for 40 years and have two adult children and two granddaughters. They are active members of Musella Baptist Church in Georgia, where they both teach Sunday School.

Robert was a board member and Vice Chairman of Flint Energies and has been involved with the Georgia Peach Council, the National Peach Council, and the Crawford County Industrial Authority. Additionally, he has held positions on the boards of SunTrust Bank of Middle Georgia, the Gordon College Foundation, and the Crawford County Farm Bureau.

Robert L. Dickey, III is serving his seventh term in the Georgia House of Representatives for District 145.
