Personal background

Richard is from Augusta, Georgia and graduated from T.W Josey High School. He holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's of education in counseling and psychology from Troy State University. He co-founded the Dad’s in Action organization, a mentoring group for at-risk children, and has served as Vice President of the Richmond County Council of PTA, and serves on the Board of Directors for Easter Seals of Augusta.

Professional background

Richard is an instructor for the local police academies teaching homicides, violent crimes and constitutional law, where he has been for 25 years. He also attended the FBI academy in 2008 and completed over 3,000 hours of formal law enforcement training.

Political background

Richard Roundtree is the County Sheriff in Richmond County. He was elected to this position in 2012, and has served three terms.

Public Safety

Plans to continue focusing on addressing gun violence, especially amongst youth, claiming is spans beyond law enforcement, calling it a "community project"

Said retaining deputies is a major issue, which he attributes to nationwide shortages in law-enforcement personnel.

Said "If you continue to not support law enforcement, it will make your city less safe."
