Cornelia earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Illinois and Roosevelt University, Chicago. She is married and has five adult children. She is a member of the American Association of University Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a former member of the Association of Middle Level Education, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
