Ray and his wife have three adult children. 

Ray has worked for IBM for over 24 years, performing various leadership roles in data management, business analysis, and organizational management. Previously, he has worked in consulting for BP-Amoco and the US Department of Energy Nuclear Defense Programs, and spent six years with the Polk County Police Department.

Ray Carter has served as the Polk County commissioner for the last six years. He also served nine years as a Rockmart councilman and three years on the Development Authority of Polk County.
