Doug holds an Associate of Science Degree from the University of the State of New York, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology Management from the American Military University and is working on his Master of Public Administration from Oklahoma University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and the U.S. Army Staff Management College, Ft. Belvoir, VA. Doug is an American Society of Military Comptrollers Certified Defense Financial Manager, and a Society of Broadcast Engineers Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer. He and his wife Cathy have six adult children.

Doug previously worked as Director of the Defense Media Activity for the American Forces Network Pacific Region Resource and Program Management in Ft. Meade, Maryland. He also worked as the Chief Engineer and Information Management Officer at American Forces Network-Korea in Seoul. He has also worked in other roles as a telecommunications engineer and owned a Telecommunications/Computer Consulting Business for 5 years. He spent 23 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1995 at the rank of Sergeant Major.

Doug Griffin's campaign for County Commissioner in Decatur County Commission District 2 is his first entry into politics.
