Greg holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the Catholic University of America. Greg resides in Cherokee County with his wife, Kim, with whom they have one son. 

Greg is currently the Chief Associate Magistrate Judge for Cherokee County. He also serves as a Deputy Staff Judge Advocate with the Georgia State Defense Force, and as Of Counsel with Barbara Parker & Associates, LLC. He previously worked as an Associate Attorney in the private sector and as a Trial Lawyer for his own law practice. He is also a Military Veteran.

Greg received his bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Maryland. He then received his law degree from the Catholic University of America in 1995. Greg and his wife have lived in Cherokee County for over twenty years, and they have one adult son.  

Before Greg assumed his role as Chief Associate Magistrate, he practiced law with multiple firms and is admitted to practice in the US Supreme Court, the US Tax Court, Georgia, and Maryland. He is also a certified public accountant.

Greg Douds was elected as Treasurer, then President, of the Lutheran Church council in Maryland. He never took on a theological position because he’s not a Lutheran. Greg made sure meetings moved efficiently and the church’s needs were met

Major Greg Douds is the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate (Deputy JAG) in the Georgia State Defense Force, an official, all-volunteer military branch. Greg leads a team of soldier attorneys in support of the Georgia Army National Guard’s Legal Assistance Program.

- Magistrate Courts hear civil cases only in amounts less than $15,000. There are no jury trials in Magistrate Court. 
- Magistrate Courts hear landlord tenant dispossessory cases (i.e. a case where a landlord is seeking an eviction of their tenant) and can order evictions. 
- The Chief Magistrate can determine procedures for managing the cases in front of the Magistrate. For example, in Fulton County the Chief Magistrate informs parties in landlord tenant dispossessory cases on the benefits of mediation and provides on-site mediators to resolve landlord tenant disputes before the parties appear in front of the judge. 
- Magistrate Courts only have jurisdiction over their respective counties. Each county has its own magistrate court. Magistrate Court Judge term lengths vary per county, however most serve four year terms. Local Superior Court Judges set parameters for Magistrate Courts.
