Jonathan has a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and criminal justice from the University of North Georgia and a law degree from Mercer University.  

Jonathan previously worked for the Georgia National Guard for 29 years. He has served as a Deputy Commander, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, and Captain. Jonathan also worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Macon Judicial Circuit for more than 12 years. 

Jonathan L. Adams was elected District Attorney for the Towaliga Judicial Circuit in 2017, serving Butts. Lamar, and Monroe Counties, and currently still serves in that capacity.

As an Assistant District Attorney (ADA), was the Lead Counsel on Domestic Violence cases; responsibilities included leading a team of lawyers, who represented the State of Georgia and prosecuting individuals accused of committing crimes.

As the Chief of the Mental Health and Family Violence Divisions, supervised all criminal cases in the Family Violence and Mental Health Courts.

Has served as District Attorney (DA) since 2017, representing the State of Georgia in the trial and appeal of criminal cases.

- A District Attorney is the person who represents the government in the prosecution of all felony criminal cases and the misdemeanors connected to felonies. 
- They review police arrest reports, build cases against arrested individuals, and ultimately are responsible for prosecuting and making the case against these individuals. 
- They also have the discretion of whether or not to bring charges against arrested people, whether or not to seek jail time, or whether or not to send individuals to pre-trial diversion programs. District Attorneys handle the most critical cases in their district, including internal investigations of law enforcement officers.
