Kirklyn has a bachelor's degree in engineering and industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Troy University. He and his wife attend Mt. Enon Baptist Church in Monroe. 

Kirklyn owns Window Genie of East Atlanta. Previously, he worked as a quality assurance manager at ITW Labels, as building security for American Standard, and various other management and industrial engineering roles.
