Ryan earned his bachelor's degree in sustainability and urban planning from Arizona State University and his master's degree in business administration from Wilkes University. He serves on the board of the Secretary of States Small Business group and the Asian Chamber of Commerce. He lives in West Mesa with his wife Ericka and their two children. 

Ryan currently works as a community developer. He previously worked as the executive director of RAIL CDC, an area census office manager for the U.S. Department of Commerce, an economic development consultant, and an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University.
