Kent Reporter, Boeing retiree John Boyd aims for Kent City Council position

John has lived in Kent for 27 years. He has a human service degree with a certification in chemical dependency treatment from Highline College. He lives with his wife, Cheryl. They have two sons.

John used to be the lead quality inspector for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. He also worked for McDonnell Douglas and as a drug counselor at SeaMar. He served in the U.S. Navy.

John Boyd's campaign for city council is his first entry into politics.

- City council members work with the mayor to govern city departments, such as the police department, fire department, transportation department, and parks and recreation department.
- City council members serve four year terms, and elections are nonpartisan. City council members are either elected to represent specific districts or are elected at-large, meaning that they represent the entire city.
