Katie is from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She has a bachelor's degree in public policy and political science and a master's degree in divinity from Duke University. She lives with her husband and their three children in Barton Heights in Northside Richmond.

Katie Gooch is the director of Pace Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. Pace Center is a multicultural student center. She used to be the executive pastor at Reveille United Methodist Church.
