Sarath Kolla is from India. He has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. He also has a Masters degree in Biological Science from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science and a second Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Denver. He lives with his wife and two sons in Ashburn. He also has served as a board member on the Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, Stone Hill Middle School, and Rock Ridge High School parent teacher organizations (PTOs).

Sarath Kolla is a breathwork and meditation teacher. He works at Art of Living, where he has been for 14 years. He is also the chief technology officer for Yugaa where he has been for 16 years. Previously, he worked at Toyota North America, Fannie Mae, Barclaycard, MassMutual Financial Group, BITSAA International, ADT, CVS Caremark Corporation, Liberty Mutual, Netkey, Supply Insight, Metaserver, and Valtech.

Sarath Kolla's campaign for school board member is his first entry into politics.
